It is the northwestern point of Crooked Island, separated from the mainland by a narrow waterway, and serves as a beacon at the northern entrance of the much travelled Crooked Island Passage. Construction of the lighthouse started in 1866, and it became operational in 1876. Christopher Columbus is said to have anchored here for a short period when he arrived in The Bahamas.

Spear Fishing

Crooked is the kind of place to go if you want to do spearfishing. This is a thrill a lot of people like. Most Bahamians love to do it and they are experts at it. Spear fishing is done with a Hawaiian sling. The sling is a piece of wood with a hole in the middle and a piece of strong rubber attached to it. You put the spear in the hole and pull the rubber backwards. Then you point at the fish and let the rubber go. That sounds easy isn't it?

Bone Fishing

The bonefishing is best in the mornings, and the tarpon fishing better in the afternoons. Sharks, barracuda, jacks, and snapper are also prevalent in the summer months. Since Crooked is further south than other islands, these months can offer better weather than the northern islands.
